JSA Autograph Authentication 101: How AMG Verifies Signed Records

A signature adds real value to a record — but only if a buyer can trust it's genuine. AMG partners with JSA, one of the hobby's most recognized autograph authenticators, to verify signed records before they're graded and encapsulated.

Two Levels of Authentication

AMG offers two JSA-backed options at submission. A JSA Letter of Authenticity (LOA) confirms the signature is genuine and comes with formal documentation — that's a $35 add-on (JSA does have an upcharge for depending on signer; AMG will follow-up if there is an upcharge on a submission). For $70, you can add a JSA LOA plus full autograph grading, which evaluates the quality and placement of the signature itself, not just its authenticity.  JSA only offers autograph grading on pieces with a max of 2 autographs.

Already Have a COA?

If your item was previously authenticated elsewhere, AMG also accepts existing certificates of authenticity from JSA, PSA and Beckett — you don't need to start the authentication process over from scratch.

What Happens After Authentication

Once a signature is authenticated, the item is documented as part of AMG's Signature Series — marked with its own icon and Gold label so buyers can identify signed items at a glance. The record is then sealed inside AMG's tamper-evident case alongside its grade (or, for archived items, without a numerical grade), with a serial-numbered hologram that ties the physical item to AMG's records permanently.

Why This Matters for Resale

Unauthenticated signatures are one of the biggest risk factors in the collectibles market — a name scrawled across a jacket means little without a paper trail behind it. Once JSA has authenticated a signature and AMG has sealed it inside a slab, that verification travels with the item for every future owner, not just the person who submitted it.
