Nevermind didn't just launch Nirvana — it ended hair metal's run at the top of the charts almost overnight. On January 11, 1992, the album knocked Michael Jackson's Dangerous out of the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" became the song that pulled grunge and alternative rock into the mainstream for good. That's the kind of cultural weight that keeps a record collectible more than three decades later, and it shows in AMG's submission queue: Nevermind holds the largest population of any single album in our database — 132 graded copies across vinyl, cassette, and CD.

Where the Perfect 10s Live
20 copies of Nevermind have earned a perfect AMG 10 across all formats — but only 3 of them are vinyl. Most graded copies cluster at the top of the scale (39 at AMG 8, 35 at AMG 9), which tracks with a record that's been in heavy circulation for over three decades. Getting a wax copy to a true 10, though, is a different story: sleeve wear, ring wear, and warping take their toll on a record that's been played as much as this one has.
Why Condition Matters on This Title
Nevermind was released September 24, 1991 on DGC Records, produced by Butch Vig, and has since gone 13x Platinum with more than 30 million copies sold worldwide. Original 1991 pressings have been joined over the years by reissues — including a 2011 20th-anniversary edition and a 2021 30th-anniversary box set — which means the vinyl population AMG grades today spans multiple pressing eras. The audiophile-grade Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab reissue — 200-gram vinyl, gatefold, numbered copy #17 of 5,000 — still sealed in its original poly bag. Catalog MFSL 1-258, graded AMG 8 (Excellent) on December 17, 2025.

A cassette pressed for the Saudi Arabian market through regional distributor Stallions, with a censored cover for local release — one of the more unusual regional variants in the Nevermind population. Open, catalog DGCC-24425, graded AMG 7 (Very Good+) on February 6, 2025.
